Check schedule before arriving. Wait times can be long. The ferry ride was about 15 minutes over to Clinton. It was absolutely beautiful and well worth the wait to cross over on the ferry. Make sure to park and walk upstairs, and you'll get a beautiful view!!!
A great refresh to Mukilteo and the Ferry system. The traffic is a little odd right now but I think it will work out soon. The design is more efficient to drivers. It is also a great place to walk around. You can walk through the second level of the terminal to get to either side for walk through pedestrians. Highly recommend checking it out whether you want to take the Ferry or just enjoy walking around. Give this review a like to help others.
The ferry system is a special iconic part of living near the Puget Sound. Taking my family on trips the ferry rides were always one of the highlights.
The new terminal and waterfront is really nice.
I originally was disappointed because it seems like you are fenced in on both sides while parked in the queue with no where to go while waiting, but at the front of the queue there is a turnstile and there is a nice new fishing pier and waterfront on the other side. Real nice.
The new terminal is beautiful, but it is sad to be farther along the beach away from the Ivar's and the beach park. Now the Ivar's has lost a lot of revenue, and we've lost the ability to go get ice cream when we take the ferry. Where many would go get ice cream while they waited before, few will go all the way over there now. Ferry schedule and cameras can be checked online, which is very handy to see how long the line is and how many ferries are running to estimate wait time.
Newly renovated, the terminal is a visual feast. The warm wood, distinct pacific northwest design feel, even the Native American tribe elements (the government must honor and make reparations to the tribes beyond lip service though...) all make the terminal a must visit for locals and tourists. You can take the short ferry ride to Clinton and back for the trip (there's nothing within the vicinity of the Clinton terminal for walk on passengers to do).
I'd never been on a ferry until recently and it was such a beautiful trip! Going to Oak Harbor was a blast and the thing to keep in mind is that public transportation is free! You only pay when you take the ferry back to the island. It was a short 15-20 minutes to get there and the staff are super helpful and friendly.
I had a great time on the ferry and just wish the ride was longer. Crew was friendly and professional. There is a place to buy food and vending machines. The price was reasonable and will take our vehicle next time.
I haven't been on the ferry since they opened the new terminal and it looks fantastic. Totally different but ferry traffic was flowing great. Plus, motorcycles get to go to the front of the line. Can't beat it. We checked out Double Bluff beach and had lunch at Rocket Taco. A perfect July day in the NW!
